I'm Still In School
Having a baby doesn’t mean you have to end your education. In fact, take a closer look and notice how the news of your pregnancy has all of a sudden made your academic goals very clear to you. This is a GOOD thing. Now...the next step is to find out how you can continue your education and have your baby at the same time.
If you’re still in high school, many schools will allow you to continue attending school up until a certain point. After that, a homebound teacher/tutor can be assigned to go out to your home so that you can complete your education.
There are also some schools specifically for pregnant students. If you are in the New Orleans area and you currently attend a Catholic school in the Archdiocese of New Orleans, you can look into St. Gerard Majella Alternative School. Talk to your school about your pregnancy and inquire about your educational options.
If you’re in college, some universities offer on-grounds childcare. Find out if your university has one. If they don’t, you may be eligible for federal childcare assistance. If you’re in Louisiana, click here for more information.
